The Voltex Initiatives
People & Community
It is our responsibility as a business to take care of the company's vendors, passionate team members, and customers. We also have an obligation to the environment, and to contribute to the success of future sparkies around Australia.
But this is only a start! Tell us what is important to you, and what we
should focus on. Contact us and lets us know.
Environmental
Initiatives
Eco-friendly Product Packaging
You may have noticed recently that Voltex is transitioning to raw cardboard packaging boxes. These use recycled material where possible, have a huge reduction in ink used, and removal of the laminate glossy coating means they are easier to recycle and breakdown better for those who want to use them in the garden.
Each new product is designed with the intention of being plastic-free. An example of this is the new junction boxes: the cable connectors are clipped into the base, instead of being in a plastic bag. Or the RCBO’s in a cardboard box, instead of plastic shrink-wrap. Voltex is part of APCO and is committed to reducing our environmental footprint from product packaging.
Biodegradable Void Fill
As of mid-2021, we’ve made the transition to air pillows made from bio-degradable material. This material breaks down into Carbon Dioxide and Water within a year, and has been certified compostable, so can be placed in the green bin.
Renewable Energy
In January 2021, Voltex headquarters moved to new office and warehouse facilities in the south of Adelaide. This building has been designed to be energy smart, including a night-flush ventilation system, an indirect evaporative cooling system, and a huge solar panel and battery system, with the ambition of being carbon neutral.
Ethics and People
Initiatives
This is at the core of everything. It is reflected across the supply chain, including vendors, service providers, passionate team members, and electrical contractors. Voltex is in this for the long run, and we care because ensuring that all these partners are succesful in their own missions will result in better quality product and services for you.
Local Manufacturing
Wherever possible, Voltex is bringing manufacturing back into Australia. That's why we've recently re-shored our corrugated conduit and PVC conduit fittings to a manufacturing facility just outside of Melbourne. The fire protection range is manufactured in SA. Roof Penetration Seals and Air Conditioner Brackets in VIC. More to come!
Global Awareness
Where it isn't possible to partner with Australian suppliers, Voltex believe in spreading right across the globe. The last couple of years has shown us how fragile our world can be, and we strongly believe that sourcing from one country or one region of the world only is too risky. We currently source from more than 20 different countries and are planning to diversify further.
Ethical Compliance
For all the global manufacturing partners, we have implemented an ethical compliance program. These are non-negotiable terms that describes the minimum requirements on social and working conditions, together with environmental demands. Happier workers = less quality mistakes and better products.
Passionate Team Members
And finally, our passionate team members. Companies can try to replicate the Voltex model, but they will never be able to copy the awesome crew here. The people are the most valuable resource Voltex has, and they're rewarded generously for their hard work and demonstration of the Voltex values.
Community
Initiatives
From humble beginnings, Voltex has grown into a network of over 10,000 registered electricians across Australia and New Zealand. We have a responsibility to care about them and the communities they live in! So here are a couple of things Voltex is doing today, and some other ideas for the future:
Charity
One of the main partners is RRT who provide emergency and disaster relief, and support members of the community including the homeless, and disadvantaged youth. They also network with charitable organisations that empower those with a disability or heath issues. Many Voltex staff also regularly volunteer, because we believe in giving back to the community.
MENTAL HEALTH
Recent studies have shown the number of metal disorders (depression, anxiety) has risen over 30% due to the COVID pandemic. The number of calls to crisis helplines have hit all-time highs. It’s OK to not be OK. You do not have to do this alone. Voltex donates to MATES in Construction, Beyond Blue and Lifeline, who do amazing work for the community. Please check in with your mates, and if you are struggling yourself, please reach out and call them.
It is here that we need the most help. What more can we do to allow you to get ahead, and create a better life for you and your family?
